Bnny, the Chicago-based project once known as Bunny, crafts intimate rock steeped in noir atmosphere, all stemming from bandleader Jess Viscius. She began composing with spare chord progressions after a guitar was left behind in her apartment. Teaming up with friends and relatives already embedded in the city’s indie community, Viscius saw the project’s hushed and emotionally raw debut, Everything, emerge in 2021. That same thread of loss extended into One Million Love Songs, issued in 2024.

Viscius spent several years shaping her earliest material during scattered writing sessions before assembling a steady lineup that included her twin sister Alexa on bass, Tim Makowski and Adam Schubert on guitar, and Matt Pelkey on drums, each already active in other local bands. Some tracks drew from a turbulent relationship while others confronted the loss of her partner; the resulting album Everything echoed the Velvet Underground’s emphasis on elemental chord structures. Jason Balla of Dehd handled production, and Fire Talk put the record out in the middle of 2021. Following another breakup, Viscius returned with One Million Love Songs early the next year, maintaining the same wounded sensibility. Once more she gathered friends and her sister for the sessions, this time co-producing alongside Alex Farrar of Wednesday and Indigo De Souza.
