Biography
Born as Keith Anderson in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1944, Bob Andy had already built a local following as a reggae solo act, as had Marcia Griffiths, who likewise hailed from the Jamaican capital. Producer Harry J paired the two for a string-laden reggae interpretation of Nina Simone's "Young, Gifted and Black," which, credited to Bob & Marcia, climbed into the U.K. Top Ten in 1970. A 1971 cover of Crispian St. Peters' "Pied Piper" followed, yet further European traction never materialized, so the duo headed back to Jamaica and resumed separate careers. Griffiths later became a member of Bob Marley's female backing trio, the I-Threes, before returning to solo work after his death.
