Biography
Formed in 1983, the singing duo Bobbysox brought together Norwegian Hanne Krogh and Swedish-Norwegian Elisabeth Andreassen. Their debut album, Bobbysocks, appeared in 1984, and the next year the pair claimed victory at the 1985 Eurovision Song Contest with the single “La Dette Swinge,” which quickly gained worldwide attention. As Norway’s first Eurovision champions, they also received the Peer Gynt Prize, their country’s highest musical honor, for the achievement.
Following the contest, the earlier Bobbysocks album returned to the marketplace and joined the single on the charts. The duo next completed the 1986 LP Waiting for Morning, then issued one more collection, 1988’s Walkin’ on Air, before disbanding that same year. Occasional reunions have continued, among them a performance at the 50th anniversary Eurovision concert held in Copenhagen, Denmark, in October 2005.
