Belgium-based producer Bolis Pupul crafts wry, forward-thinking electro-pop alongside reflective techno. Following his signing to Soulwax’s DeeWee imprint and the appearance of two early singles, he issued his first full-length project in tandem with Charlotte Adigéry on the widely praised Topical Dancer (2022). With Letter to Yu, his inaugural solo album from 2024, he turned his attention toward his Chinese heritage.

Although Pupul first surfaced in the 2010s via the standalone singles “Moon Theme/Sun Theme” and “Wèi?/Teknow,” the bulk of his work has taken shape alongside Belgium-based vocalist Charlotte Adigéry. After Soulwax matched the pair to create music for the 2016 film Belgica, they forged a durable creative partnership that yielded an initial EP released under Adigéry’s name alone. Their approach merged floor-focused productions with ironic commentary: Adigéry supplied playful observations and pointed one-liners on assorted social themes, while Pupul constructed tracks around nostalgic foundations and infectious melodies. Momentum built around Adigéry’s 2019 single “High Lights,” which led into the follow-up EP Zandoli.

By 2021 the two began issuing material under a joint billing, starting with the propulsive “Thank You” and continuing promptly with “Blenda” and “HAHA.” Their 2022 debut studio album, Topical Dancer, assembled a set of irreverent anthems supported by Pupul’s polished arrangements. Shortly afterward he dropped the solo track “Neon Buddha” and delivered a remix of Metronomy’s “Hole Me Tonight.” In 2024 Pupul unveiled Letter to Yu, shaped by the memory of his mother—who perished in a traffic accident in 2008—and by subsequent journeys to Hong Kong undertaken to reconnect with his lineage and uncover details of his family’s past.
