Breitbild

Breitbild formed as a Swiss rap collective in 1999 when DJ Jäger joined forces with Phlegma, Vali, Thom Krause, and Hyphen in Chur, Graubünden, Switzerland. The five members belong to the Bauers, a loose affiliation of Swiss rap acts that also counts Sektion Kuchikäschtli, Luut & Tüütli, and X-Chaibä among its ranks. Their first release arrived in 2002 as the four-track EP Statischt on Schrägstrich, the boutique imprint run by fellow Bauer affiliate Gimma. After signing with the independent 08eins Records, the group issued its debut full-length, Narrafreiheit, in 2004; the album reached number 71 on the Swiss charts and yielded the singles “Gimmer as Mic” and “Lüüt.” Music for the project was supplied by the hip-hop band Toshman & Rabbit, whose lineup comprises Sam on guitar, Dschii on piano, Monk on drums, Fippo on bass, and Cutmium on turntables. Breitbild returned in 2006 with Legenda, again featuring Toshman & Rabbit; the album climbed to number 13 nationally and was led by the singles “Für 1 Hets Immer No Glangt” and “Richtig.” Their third effort, As Isch Nid Immer Alles Crazy, followed in 2008 and entered the Swiss albums chart at number eight, confirming the group’s growing audience behind the advance single “Mach Si Stolz.”
