Born July 25, 1977, in Estonia, Andres Andrekson would later earn recognition as the Swiss rap phenomenon Stress. His upbringing diverged sharply from conventional rap narratives: after his father abandoned the family during his early years, his mother insisted on academic achievement, which he consistently delivered. At age twelve he relocated to Switzerland, where he fused his enthusiasm for hip-hop with scholarly discipline by directing his verbal aptitude and rigorous work habits into original lyrics and a personal artistic identity.

Performing under the name Stress, he first appeared on record in 1995 as a member of the hip-hop outfit Double Pact on the album Impact N°3. Together with fellow member Nega, he left a lasting impression on French rap across four albums issued between that debut and the group’s dissolution after the 2002 release Rien a Perdre. Both artists launched solo careers in 2003.

Stress’s first solo project appeared under the alter ego Billy Bear and contained generous portions of whimsy and parody comparable to Eminem’s Slim Shady. After the record’s successful release, Andrekson stepped away from music to pursue a business career following his graduation from HEC Lausanne. The pause ended quickly when his marriage and near-immediate divorce supplied fresh motivation; he channeled the resulting personal strain into lyric writing and performance.

On Valentine’s Day 2005 he released his second solo album, 25.07.03, which entered the Swiss charts at number three, surpassed 40,000 units, and earned him his first gold record. A wave of collaboration requests followed, positioning Stress among Switzerland’s most commercially accomplished rappers. His third solo album, Renaissance, appeared in February 2007 and reached platinum status in less than two months.
