Biography
Born Dennis Furrer on July 18, 1980, in Adliswil, Switzerland, Phenomden grew up to represent Zürich’s Wiedikon district while performing in Swiss German dialect, becoming one of the first Swiss reggae artists to reach mainstream success. His recording career began in 2004 with the single “Cha Nüt Defür,” followed by several additional singles before the release of his debut full-length album Fang Ah (2005) on One Ton. That project featured contributions from a broad array of regional reggae outfits including Townnet Crew, the Scrucialists, the Ganglords, and Pow Pow Movement, positioning Phenomden as an emerging force within the Swiss reggae community. Issued under the Phenom Melody moniker rather than Phenomden, the follow-up album Style-Generator (2007) maintained a collaborative approach yet failed to match the earlier project’s reception. A standalone single titled “Polizischte!” appeared the same year, credited jointly to Phenomden & the Scrucialists. Phenomden achieved widespread recognition the following year with the third album Gangdalang (2008), which entered the Top Ten of the Swiss albums chart and yielded the Top 50 single “Stah Da.”
