Biography
Hailing from the modest Oregon outpost of Rainier along the Washington border, Broadway Calls took shape as a street-level punk-pop act. Though the band itself coalesced in 2005, vocalist-guitarist Ty Vaughn and drummer Josh Baird had already logged nearly a decade together in the hardcore outfit Countdown to Life. Rounding out the lineup with Josh’s brother Robert Baird on guitar and Matt Koenig on bass and backing vocals, the group delivered its first EP, Call the Medic..., through State of Mind Records—home also to Canadian pop-punk act Daggermouth—late that year. A subsequent arrangement with the established Canadian punk imprint Smallman widened their North American reach and paved the way for the self-titled full-length, finished in 2007 and reissued the following year on Adeline Records after the band signed with the label in January.
