Biography
Philadelphia emo heroes Kid Dynamite had wrapped up heavy road work and a pair of well-received records when frontman Jason Shevchuk chose to step away and devote himself to film studies. His drive for music nevertheless resurfaced quickly, prompting him to start composing and rehearsing guitar parts alongside roommate Dan on bass, which marked the modest launch of None More Black during the winter of 2000. Shevchuk’s sibling Jeff joined on guitar and an initial drummer was recruited to round things out. Rough recordings reached Sub Division Records prior to the group’s first live appearance; after swapping drummers, None More Black released a three-song 7" in September 2001. Further demos circulated nationwide until the shifting roster secured a deal with California’s Fat Wreck Chords. The label issued the band’s debut full-length, File Under Black, in June 2003, featuring the Shevchuk brothers alongside drummer Mike McEvoy and bassist Paul Delaney of Kill Your Idols. A year later, Loud About Loathing appeared on Sabot Productions. Stable chemistry finally emerged once Jason Shevchuk and Delaney added guitarist Colin McGinniss and, subsequently, drummer Jared Shavelson of the Hope Conspiracy. Working with producer J. Robbins of Against Me! and Jawbox, None More Black returned on Fat Wreck Chords with the varied This Is Satire in spring 2006. Even after the album received favorable notice, the group declared an indefinite hiatus in the first months of 2007.
