Biography
A Wilhelm Scream emerged from Massachusetts in 2000 as a melodic hardcore unit celebrated for its explosive concerts and instrumental precision. Over more than twenty years the New Bedford-formed band has remained a driving force in punk and hardcore circles, issuing albums such as Mute Print in 2004, Career Suicide in 2007, Partycrasher in 2013, and Lose Your Delusion in 2022 that consistently honor the style’s intensity while diverging from prevailing patterns.
Originally assembled in the mid-nineties as Smackin’ Isaiah, the group delivered The Way to a Girl’s Heart Is Through Her Boyfriend’s Stomach on All About Records in 2001 and The Champagne of Bands EP on Fork in Hand in 2002. Subsequent personnel shifts and a sharpened musical direction led to both a new name and a settled roster featuring guitarist/vocalist Trevor Reilly, vocalist Nuno Pereira, bassist/vocalist Jonathan Teves, drummer Nicholas Pasquale Angelini, and guitarist Chris Levesque. The reconstituted lineup secured a contract with Jump Start Records, which reissued The Benefits of Thinking Out Loud, an album first cut and issued by Tank Records under the prior moniker in 2001.
Mute Print appeared in 2004 as the band’s debut for Nitro Records. Remaining on that label, A Wilhelm Scream followed with Ruiner in 2005, a Bill Stevenson and Jason Livermore production that preceded a U.S. run alongside the Lawrence Arms and a fortnight on the year’s Warped Tour. After Career Suicide arrived in 2007, longtime guitarist Chris Levesque departed and Mike Supina stepped in. Two years later the band moved to Paper + Plastick for a self-titled five-song EP and resumed extensive touring across North and South America.
Partycrasher, issued on No Idea Records in 2013, stands as the group’s heaviest statement to date, incorporating pronounced metal elements. Supina exited in 2018; Jason Milbank, previously of Senses Fail, assumed lead guitar duties. In 2021 the band signed with Creator Destructor Records and began tracking its next full-length. Recorded and produced internally at the members’ home studio, Lose Your Delusion reached listeners in 2022.
