Levittown, NY, hardcore revivalists Crime in Stereo advanced at a rapid clip. The band cut a demo in 2001 inside a basement, captured with unvarnished hardcore directness, then secured a support slot alongside Cro-Mags and released a split 7" with Kill Your Idols prior to dropping their debut full-length on Blackout Records in January 2004. Explosives and the Will to Use Them drew parallels to earlier acts such as Dag Nasty while boasting blunt track names including "Play It Loud Fuckers" and "Warning: Perfect Sideburns Do Not Make You Dangerous." Scotty Griffin, Alex Dunne, Michael Musilli, and Kristian Hallbert maintained the pace without pause. In 2005 the Contract EP came out on Blackout, and Crime in Stereo aligned with California indie Nitro for their second album. The Troubled Stateside surfaced during spring 2006; twelve months afterward, following extensive touring, the group signed with Boston-based hardcore imprint Bridge Nine Records and started work on the subsequent record.
