Emerging from Philadelphia’s late-seventies punk underground, where its members had previously played in the Boneheads and the Autistics, Bunnydrums briefly established itself as a sci-fi/angular/psychedelic/punk outfit. The quartet—vocalist David Goerk, guitarist Frank Marr, bassist Greg Davis, and drummer Joe Ankenbrand—first appeared onstage in 1980 and issued its independently produced EP Feathers Web the following year. Red Records subsequently signed the band, leading to the 1983 release of PKD, a full-length that merged the earlier EP with additional tracks. Rather than committing to extensive road work, Bunnydrums devoted itself to the local scene and helped form the Funk Dungeon, a Philadelphia collective of musicians and artists. Pressure from the label eventually prompted touring behind the next album, Holy Moly, even as internal tensions intensified. An unfinished European tour, personnel shifts, and mounting discord brought about the group’s dissolution in 1986, although occasional reunion appearances at benefit concerts followed. In 2003 Metropolis Records restored the catalog to circulation with the compilation PKD/Simulacra.
