Carina Alfie, an Argentinean guitar virtuoso, stands out among South America's brightest talents. Throughout the 1990s she navigated the male-dominated rock scene, steadily building her presence while refining an exceptional guitar technique. Her first album, Aislomiento, appeared in 1996 and achieved notable success in Argentina. The following year a chance encounter with Grammy Award-winning guitarist Steve Vai created fresh opportunities. Alfie performed with Vai and his band at a concert in Buenos Aires, then paid tribute to him with a dedicated track on the 2000 album Mundo Interior. That September she worked with Vai at his Mothership recording studio in Hollywood while preparing her third album. During the same period she formed a connection with drummer Linda McDonald of the Los Angeles rock outfit Phantom Blue, a bond that enabled Alfie to write and record with the group. Their collaboration later appeared on the 2001 various-artists compilation Warmth in the Wilderness: A Tribute to Jason Becker. Beyond her solo projects, Alfie also collaborates with the instrumental act Lunatycos.
