Biography
British singer and songwriter Carina Round launched her career with a brief engagement at Birmingham's Ronnie Scott's club in 1996, well before any comparisons to PJ Harvey surfaced. Within a few years she drew notice by opening for Mark Eitzel, David Gray, Miles Hunt of the Wonder Stuff, and especially Ryan Adams, who invited her to appear at multiple London performances. She soon broadened her sonic palette by adding drummer Marcus Galley and double bassist Simon Smith; the trio played a short run of shows and then entered the studio to cut 2001's The First Blood Mystery. Round promoted that release with an extensive tour alongside Glenn Tilbrook, then returned in 2004 with The Disconnection, her first album for major label Interscope. Glen Ballard helmed 2006's Slow Motion Addict, which introduced a more radio-friendly, electronically enhanced aesthetic, while 2009's Things You Should Know paired her with Gary Go and Vega 4's Johnny McDaid. She next devoted time to assorted endeavors, among them songwriting and recording sessions with Academy Award-winning composer Marco Beltrami, activities with her band the Early Winters, and road work with Puscifer, where she ultimately became co-lead vocalist with Maynard James Keenan. Brian Eno, Billy Corgan, and Dave Stewart contributed to 2012's Tigermending. Round maintained her ties to both Puscifer and the Early Winters before issuing the remix set Tigermixes in 2015 and the career overview Deranged to Divine the following year.
