Biography
Carl Hancock Rux, recognized as a poet and spoken word performer, came into the world and spent his formative years in Harlem, New York, emerging from the city's foster care system before enrolling at Columbia University. The New York Times singled him out in 1994 with the designation "One of 30 Artists Under the Age of 30 Most Likely to Influence Culture Over the Next 30 Years," after which his live poetry readings steadily absorbed influences from hip-hop, jazz, and R&B, leading to the appearance of his debut album, Rux Revue, in 1999. Apothecary RX arrived five years afterward via the Giant Step label, followed by Good Bread Alley on Thirsty Ear in 2006.
