Biography
Originating from Baltimore, Maryland, singer-songwriter Carter Tanton crafts yearning alternative country blended with folk touches and delivered in a somewhat lo-fi rock mode. He issued his first solo album, Birds & Rain, in 2005, after which he settled in Boston and launched the indie rock band Tulsa. The group put out an EP alongside the 2007 full-length I Was Submerged, only for label and legal complications to halt work on a follow-up and ultimately dissolve the outfit. Tanton then entered the supporting ensemble of indie singer/songwriter Marissa Nadler, assisting with the recording and release of her self-titled 2011 album. In that same year he resumed solo work through the album Freeclouds.
