Cayucas represents the bright pop venture launched by Santa Monica twin brothers Zach and Ben Yudin, who fuse the breezy charm of 1960s pop with contemporary studio methods. Their combination of catchy composition, retro recordings, and classic gear first surfaced on the sun-drenched 2013 debut Bigfoot. Although the keyboard-driven Real Life from 2019 highlighted broader capabilities, the duo reclaimed their signature throwback vibe the next year with Blue Summer.

Zach Yudin previously released music as Oregon Bike Trails after completing a double major in music theory and production alongside Japanese studies. Once he finished school, a twelve-month stay in Tokyo preceded his concentrated effort to refine the Cayucas aesthetic. Drawing from Harry Belafonte, the Animals, and the Tornadoes for samples while mapping initial concepts on acoustic guitar, he assembled wistful yet enduring tracks and shared them digitally. A deal with Secretly Canadian Records led to sessions with Richard Swift, whose fresh instrumental contributions shaped the eight-track Bigfoot collection issued in April 2013. The album reached the upper half of Billboard’s Independent Albums chart, prompting extensive road work alongside Lord Huron and Young the Giant. Crediting both Yudin brothers as full members, the 2015 follow-up Dancing at the Blue Lagoon was tracked by Ryan Hadlock—the Lumineers, Brandi Carlile—at Bear Creek Studio in Woodinville, Washington.

Once the Dancing at the Blue Lagoon promotional cycle ended, the Yudins devoted nearly two years to their next long-player. Teaming with Dennis Herring, they steered toward a cleaner, synth-oriented approach on Real Life, which Park the Van Records issued in April 2019. While supporting that record on tour, the brothers began composing material that echoed their earliest work, launching full sessions for a fourth album late in the year. At their Los Angeles home studio they mined an existing library of samples and drew fresh influence from the Beach Boys and Jan & Dean, resulting in September 2020’s Blue Summer.
