Biography
Estreia Ceumar, who records as Ceumar, delivers smooth vocal textures and a commanding stage aura that have infused Brazil’s pop repertoire with renewed vitality. Issued in 1995, her opening effort Dindinha remains prized as an acoustic Brazilian pop landmark. Born to a multi-instrumentalist and singer in Brazil’s interior south of Minas Gerais, she first absorbed melodies on her father’s electric viola and piano, then devoted several years to classical viola training. Pop music, however, stayed her central focus. She initiated her professional path singing a blend of American and Brazilian pop numbers in Minas Gerais bars, supplementing earnings through jingle sessions and festival work as a backing vocalist. Relocating to Sao Paulo in 1995, she entered the studio soon after to capture her debut album. Ceumar keeps investigating her musical lineage. Her largest undertaking to date is the expansive production 30 Musicas Que Voce No Radio (30 Songs That You Won't Hear on Radio), which sets lyrics by Gigliola Cinquetti to scores by Brazilian composers Hugo Montgomery and Hermeto Pascoal.
