Biography
Paulinho Moska ranks among those pop performers who merged MPB and pop during the 1990s by issuing five solo albums between 1994 and 1999, while his broad repertory regularly wove sambas and further styles into the mix. Among his notable tracks stand “Último Dia,” a joint effort with Billy Brandão, “A Seta e o Alvo,” created with Nilo Romero, and “Me Chama de Chão,” written alongside Branco Mello and Fernando Zarif.
Moska took up guitar lessons at age 13 under André Abujamra of Karnak. After 1985 he explored acting through minor appearances in the films A Cor do seu Destino, Um Trem Para as Estrelas, O Mistério do Colégio Brasil, Kuarup, PSW, and Ócio. Around the same years he entered the respected vocal group Garganta Profunda (“Deep Throat”).
In 1987 Garganta Profunda prompted its singers to form duos, trios, and quartets, which gave rise to Inimigos do Rei. Toward year’s end Moska, Luiz Nicolau, and Luis Guilherme withdrew from Garganta to concentrate on Inimigos, whose early shows took place in lesser-known clubs. Their debut album arrived in 1989 on CBS, later known as Sony Music, and included the hits “Uma Barata Chamada Kafka” and “Adelaide.”
Moska departed Inimigos in 1992 to begin a solo trajectory. His first solo album, Vontade, came out in 1993. The song “O Último Dia,” drawn from his second album Pensar é Fazer Música released in 1995, climbed the charts and became the theme for the soap opera O Fim Do Mundo, thereby presenting Moska to audiences nationwide.
