Emerging as a composer and vocalist during the 1990s, Jorge Vercilo quickly drew notice when artists such as Djavan recorded “Final Feliz,” Danilo Caymmi performed “Encontro das Águas,” Patrícia Marx sang “Novos Corações,” Chrystian & Ralf covered “Sensível Demais,” Fábio Jr. interpreted “Tudo Ilusão,” and the band Cheiro de Amor released “Fácil de Entender,” among others. Several of his pieces also appeared on the soundtracks of major soap operas, among them Tropicaliente with “Praia Nua,” Mulheres de Areia featuring “Encontro das Águas,” and Indomada including “Infinito Amor.” Vercilo twice represented Brazil at the Caribbean World Festival of Curaçao, winning the event outright in 1989 and again in 1990. His debut CD, Encontro das Águas, arrived in 1993. Shifting toward a pop idiom on the 1996 follow-up Em Tudo Que é Belo, he earned a Sharp Prize nomination for best pop singer. The third album, Leve (2000), included a guest appearance by Djavan on “Final Feliz,” which went on to become a hit.
