Biography
Emerging from Britain's indie folk peak, singer-songwriter Charlie Fink carved out a path as a multifaceted solo artist. Raised in a household steeped in folk traditions in Sheffield, he absorbed the genre from his mother, a dedicated musician who also led her own classes. He first gained attention by launching Noah and the Whale, whose four studio albums anchored the U.K.'s burgeoning young folk community. After six years and repeated tours across Britain and the United States, the group disbanded in 2015. Fink promptly turned to solo work, posting his first single, "My Heartbeat Lost Its Rhythm," on SoundCloud only months later. At that time, The Old Vic Theatre in London commissioned him to compose the score for its stage version of Dr. Seuss' The Lorax. The next year he supplied music for the film A Street Cat Named Bob. In 2017 he issued his debut solo album, Cover My Tracks, simultaneously unveiling a play bearing the same title. Centered on a vanished musician who encodes his reasons for disappearing within his songs, the production brought Fink together with playwright David Grieg and director Max Webster—both collaborators from The Lorax project. The show opened with a limited engagement at The Old Vic before embarking on a tour of U.K. festivals.
