Biography
Chickenfoot came together in 2008 as a hard-rocking "supergroup" built around vocalist Sammy Hagar (Van Halen, Montrose), bassist Michael Anthony (Van Halen), drummer Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), and guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani. The quartet originated during casual, unplanned sessions at Hagar’s Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, then played its first public show as part of a 2008 Hagar solo concert in Las Vegas; afterward the members opted to capture their high-energy rock & roll, funk, blues, and roots-rock mix on record. Their self-titled debut album appeared in 2009 and was supported by a world tour. The concert DVD Get Your Buzz On surfaced in 2010, with the second studio set, Chickenfoot III, arriving the following year. A limited-edition live release, LV, surfaced in 2012. In 2017 the group issued the retrospective Best + Live, containing the previously unheard track “Divine Termination,” selected cuts from the two studio albums, and additional performances drawn from the Get Your Buzz On DVD.
