Biography
George Lynch, the virtuoso guitarist and only constant presence in the group, assembled Lynch Mob in 1989 as a hard rock and heavy metal vehicle after parting ways with Dokken under contentious circumstances. The initial roster paired him with former Dokken drummer Mick Brown, bassist Anthony Esposito, and singer Oni Logan. Their first album, Wicked Sensation, arrived on Elektra in 1990 and showcased a robust blues-rock approach. Logan departed once touring wrapped, prompting vocalist Rob Mason to step in for the self-titled follow-up released two years later. Although reviewers responded favorably, the record struggled commercially amid the overwhelming rise of grunge and alternative acts in 1992. The band formally dissolved three years afterward, allowing Lynch and Brown a brief return to Dokken.
Lynch relaunched the project in 1999 with an entirely refreshed lineup and issued Smoke This, which incorporated rap-metal textures. Mason rejoined for 2003’s REvolution, an album that revisited material from the group’s early catalog alongside selections from Lynch’s Dokken years. The classic hard-rock foundation reemerged on the 2009 release Smoke and Mirrors, again fronted by Oni Logan and issued through Frontiers Records. Logan remained at the microphone for the subsequent studio efforts Sun Red Sun in 2014, Rebel in 2015, and The Brotherhood in 2017. A deluxe multimedia edition of REvolution appeared in 2020, adding both audio and video captures from the 2005 tour supporting that album. Later the same year the band unveiled Wicked Sensation Reimagined, a newly recorded reinterpretation of the 1990 debut.
In 2022 Puerto Rican vocalist Gabriel Colón, previously of Gothic Knights and White Wizzard, along with bassist Jaron Gulino of Tantric and Heaven’s Edge and drummer Jimmy D’Anda of Bulletboys, completed the current configuration. Their contributions shaped Babylon, released in 2023 as the first collection of original songs since 2017.
