Black Country Communion unites four seasoned figures from the British and American hard rock arenas, built on the partnership of bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes from Deep Purple and blues-rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa. Engineer and producer Kevin Shirley proposed bringing in journeyman drummer Jason Bonham along with keyboardist Derek Sherinian from Dream Theater, and both accepted the invitation. Since the release of their self-titled debut in 2010, the group has propelled the hard rock landscape across the U.K. and U.S. with well-received releases such as Afterglow in 2012, BCCIV in 2017, and V in 2024.

The quartet tracked their opening album, Black Country Communion, in the first months of 2010 before its September launch on J&R Adventures, where it entered the U.K. Top 20 and the U.S. Top 60. They immediately turned to preparing songs for a follow-up while scheduling a 2011 tour. Their second effort, 2, which brought them back together with producer Shirley, appeared that June. February 2012 saw the arrival of their initial live album, succeeded later in the year by the third studio set, Afterglow. Following that record’s release, Bonamassa declared his departure, prompting the remaining members to disband. Bonham and Hughes went on to establish California Breed.

The band reconvened in 2017 to create their fourth studio album, BCCIV. Cut at The Cave Studios in Malibu alongside Kevin Shirley, the LP climbed into the Top Ten on the U.K. Albums Chart. Numerous side projects and the COVID-19 pandemic delayed their return to recording until 2023, resulting in the 2024 arrival of V, which presented a powerful and confident collection of bluesy hard rock standouts.
