Christopher Bissonnette, a multimedia artist based in Windsor, Ontario, established the Thinkbox collective alongside Mark Laliberte and Chris McNamara. The ensemble staged live sets in both galleries and clubs, including slots at Detroit’s Movement Festival in 2003 and Montreal’s Mutek Festival in 2004, and also issued its own compilations, Settings and Guitar. Toward the end of the decade Bissonnette delivered two understated ambient full-lengths on the Kranky label—Periphery in 2005 and the marginally darker In Between Words in 2008. Over the ensuing ten years he released the limited Chat Blanc EP The Banal and the Profound in 2010, partnered with David Wenngren on the Home Normal album The Meridians of Longitude and Parallels of Latitude in 2011, and returned to Kranky for Essays in Idleness in 2014, an album realized entirely on a self-built analog synthesizer.
