Biography
Toronto's Comet Control surfaced midway through the 2010s, delivering a dense sonic blend that merged riff-driven psychedelia, shoegaze textures, noise elements, and Krautrock pulses. The group inked a deal with New York indie Tee Pee Records and issued their self-titled debut before delivering the cosmic Center of the Maze in 2016 and Inside the Sun in 2021.
Following the 2013 dissolution of their Toronto psych-metal outfit Quest for Fire, guitarists Andrew Moszynski and Chad Ross opted to continue collaborating and launched Comet Control. Bassist Nicole Howell, drummer Jay Anderson, and keyboardist Christopher Sandes joined, layering shoegaze dreaminess onto the original thudding weight of Quest for Fire. The expanded lineup launched live performances in May 2013 and soon tracked material for a full-length release. Tee Pee put out Comet Control in May 2014; the sessions took place at Toronto's Candle Recording, a studio known for work with Fucked Up and Sebastien Grainger, and the band handled production duties internally. Post-release touring led the members back to Candle Recording, where engineer Josh Korody assisted on their sophomore effort. Retaining its heavy foundation, the sci-fi-influenced Center of the Maze introduced greater simplicity and focus.
A 2018 European run alongside like-minded psych-rockers Earthless prompted Moszynski and Ross to begin fresh writing and recording at their Palace Sound Studio in Toronto. Those sessions yielded the band's third album, Inside the Sun, which surfaced in August 2021.
