Biography
Connie Talbot entered the world on November 20, 2000, in Walsall within Britain’s Midlands. At six she finished second behind winner Paul Potts on the 2007 installment of Britain’s Got Talent after stepping onto the stage merely for a family outing. Her innocent interpretations of “Over the Rainbow” and “Ben” captivated both the panel and viewers. Although Simon Cowell’s Sony BMG imprint initially extended a recording deal, the label withdrew the offer on the grounds that Talbot remained too young. Rainbow Records, a children’s imprint created under Rhythm Riders expressly for the singer, prepared her first album, Over the Rainbow, for release in November 2007. The project earned gold status and was succeeded the following year by the similarly popular Connie Talbot’s Christmas Album. In 2009 Connie Talbot’s Holiday Magic appeared alongside a one-hour television special later issued on DVD. Talbot maintained an international touring schedule, most notably throughout the Far East where she cultivated a devoted audience. She joined Hong Kong’s Evolution Limited in 2012, cut Beautiful World, and issued the album that autumn before embarking on a global trek. The record reached the Top Ten in both Hong Kong and Taiwan, prompting the 2014 summer release of the concert DVD Beautiful World: Live drawn from performances in those territories. Later that year the five-track EP Gravity surfaced, containing two newly written songs. Singles from the EP continued into 2015, after which Talbot returned in early 2016 with the self-penned single “Shut Up (Move On).” The full-length Matters to Me arrived in March 2016, extending her commercial momentum across East Asia.
