Biography
Formed in Leicester, England, during 1986, this guitar outfit aligned itself early with the fledgling Food imprint. Its opening pair of singles, ‘(What Gives You The Idea That) You’re So Amazing Baby?’ and ‘Baby Turpentine’, each climbed to number 2 on the independent listings with notable speed. Along with Gaye Bikers On Acid, Bomb Party and Pop Will Eat Itself, the band found itself grouped by the press under the short-lived ‘biker’ or ‘grebo’ rock banner. Momentum had already ebbed by the arrival of the third single ‘Time Has Taken Its Toll On You’ and the 1988 debut album, even though the Have Love, Will Travel EP and the track ‘Like Princes Do’—the latter appearing on Food’s Christmas EP—later scraped minor national-chart entries in 1989. The lineup carried deliberately absurd monikers, among them Vom, Superfast Blind Dick, Ian ‘Anderson Pork Beast’ on vocals and, most peculiar of all, Kevin. Food severed ties in 1989, after which a second album produced by Pat Collier surfaced on Black records.
