Crimson Glory came together as a progressive metal outfit in Florida during 1982. The lineup of vocalist Midnight, guitarists Jeff Drenning and Ben Jackson, bassist Jeff Lords, and drummer Dana Burnell spent more than three years performing as a unit before Roadrunner offered them a contract and issued their self-titled debut in 1986. Strong critical notices led MCA to sign the act, resulting in the follow-up Transcendence two years later. Shortly after that record appeared, Burnell and Jackson were let go; the pair soon resurfaced in the heavy metal group Parish and delivered the album Envision through Alfa Records. Crimson Glory brought in drummer Ravi Jakhorta to record 1991’s Strange & Beautiful, yet once those sessions wrapped, Midnight departed. The remaining members pressed ahead briefly with replacement vocalist David Van Landing before the band dissolved. Van Landing, Drenning, Lords, and Jakhorta later regrouped under the name Erotic Liquid Culture. After Van Landing stepped away, the surviving trio added singer Wade Black and guitarist Billy Martinez, allowing them to revive the Crimson Glory moniker and release Astronomica in 1999.
