Biography
Cirith Ungol, a metal outfit based in Los Angeles, came together in 1981 and drew its name from a tower that figured prominently in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings saga. Vocalist Tim Baker, guitarist Jerry Fogle, bassist Michael Flint, and drummer Robert Garvin formed the original lineup, which issued its debut album, Frost and Fire, on Enigma and followed it three years later with King of the Dead. After the 1986 release One Foot in Hell, Fogle and Flint both exited, leaving the group inactive for the next five years until guitarist Jim Barraza and bassist Vernon Green joined to record the fourth album, Paradise Lost. Cirith Ungol finally dissolved in May 1992 following Barraza’s departure.
