Originating from Dorset, England, multi-instrumentalist Holly Hardy channels her eclectic electro-folk vision through the project Cuckoolander. Coming from a musically inclined household, her mother worked as a professional backing vocalist, though her sisters excluded her from their band. Undeterred, Hardy mastered piano and drums, starting songwriting at age 15 amid the woodlands near her residence and during live shows accompanied by her mother. College music studies exposed her to jazz, funk, and psych-rock records from her mother's collection, which she found especially engaging. She launched Cuckoolander as a solo bedroom endeavor while gigging as a touring session player. The year 2014 saw her opening for the Libertines alongside the issuance of her self-titled debut EP. Additionally, she inked a deal with the publishing arm of the production duo StarGate, leading to the 2015 release of the single "Mother Nature," crafted under Dimitri Tikovoï's production. The follow-up single "Beating Myself Up" emerged early in 2016, handled by producer Rostam Batmanglij and put out on Vroom Vroom, Charli XCX's boutique imprint, with whom Hardy served as a road drummer. Further collaborations involved Nick Zinner and Daniel Ledinsky for a forthcoming full-length album slated for later that year.
