Biography
The music of cumgirl8 channels a disaffected, atmospheric strain of post-punk that articulates resistance toward modern systems of authority. The quartet fuses jittery indie-rock angles, dance-punk rhythms, and haunting lo-fi textures. Their self-titled debut arrived in 2020 before the group aligned with 4AD to release the phantasea pharm EP in 2023; the imprint then issued the follow-up album, the 8th cumming, in 2024.
Manhattan-based cumgirl8 formed around onetime models Lida Fox (vocals, bass) and Veronika Vilim (guitar), joined by Avishag Cohen Rodrigues (guitar) and Chase Lombardo (drums). Driven to deploy music, fashion, film, publishing, and broadcast platforms against capitalism and the patriarchy, the musicians began staging their anxious, dissonant yet melodic post-punk material only months before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down live venues. While sheltering in place in 2020, the band started a sociopolitical call-in program on YouTube and issued their debut album, cumgirl8, that May through Brooklyn’s Muddguts Records. DERO Arcade, in partnership with New Orleans’ Raw Sugar Records, put out the confrontational four-song EP RIPcumgirl8 at the end of 2021.
Following U.S., U.K., and European tours, cumgirl8 moved to the indie major 4AD for the August 2023 release of the phantasea pharm EP. Their second album, the 8th cumming, emerged on the label in October 2024 as an entirely analog effort captured live in the studio and was supported by another round of international dates.
