Biography
Da Ruckus, the Detroit, MI-based duo of MC/producer Hush and MC ILL, emerged from Michigan's Motor City. In the crowded local hip-hop circuit that had already launched several major acts by the start of the new millennium, the pair mounted a grassroots push to earn neighborhood credibility before seeking wider exposure. Federation Records, an underground Detroit imprint, took notice and released the crew's self-titled EP, which included a guest appearance by Eminem. The resulting music mixes dark, edgy textures that draw from E-Sham-style horror-core while retaining a backpacker outlook. That approach is defined by sharp wordplay, most notably on the debut EP's "150 MC's," a track that catalogs virtually every current rapper in a lyrical achievement still without equal.
