Biography
Daniel Heide, a pianist whose core activity centers on partnership performance, has nevertheless pursued solo engagements in both live settings and recorded projects. He established the ongoing concert series Der lyrische Salon -- Liederabende auf Schloss Ettersburg.
Born in 1976 in Weimar, then part of East Germany, Heide began piano lessons at age five with his mother, herself a pianist and singer. One year later he entered the Musikgymnasium Schloss Belvedere, Weimar’s school for musically gifted students, and studied there under Sigrid Lehmstedt. After a period devoted instead to percussion training and competitive cycling, he resumed keyboard work at seventeen and enrolled at the Franz Liszt University in Weimar. Although Ludwig Bätzel was his principal teacher, Heide largely directed his own studies by attending song master classes with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Christa Ludwig, whose counsel proved especially formative. His subsequent career has concentrated on collaborative pianism for both concerts and recordings; his first disc appeared in 2009 on the Ars Produktion label, accompanying violist Pauline Sachse on Viola Tales.
Heide has served as accompanist throughout many European countries and in major venues such as the Philharmonie in Berlin, Wigmore Hall in London, and the Prinzregententheater in Munich. Singers and instrumentalists alike request his participation with notable frequency. Regular vocal partners include mezzo-soprano Stella Doufexis as well as mezzo-soprano Ingeborg Danz and contralto Britta Schwarz; he has also supported Christoph Pregardien, Simone Kermes, and Luca Pisaroni in lieder recitals. Instrumental collaborators encompass violist Tabea Zimmermann, violinist Antje Weithaas, and cellist Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt. In 2011 he inaugurated the monthly art-song series Der lyrische Salon -- Liederabende auf Schloss Ettersburg at a castle outside Weimar, an event that has continued without interruption and steadily attracted larger numbers of young listeners. As a solo pianist he has released several Beethoven sonata recordings on the CAvi-music label. While many of his ensemble discs have likewise appeared on that imprint, he moved to Deutsche Grammophon in 2022 to accompany baritone Andrè Schuen in Schubert’s song cycle Schwanengesang, D. 957.
