Biography
Hailing from Waterford in southeastern Ireland, the seven-member ensemble Danú has built its reputation on interpretations of longstanding Irish folk material enriched by inventive sonic textures. The group remains deeply connected to the nation's musical core and the enduring compositions that have long shaped its cultural identity.
Midway through 2000 the septet issued its first album, Think Before You Think, via the Shanachie imprint, an achievement that came on the heels of being voted Best Overall Traditional Act of 1999 by Dublin's Irish Music magazine. All Things Considered appeared in 2002, initiating a sustained partnership with the studios of Irish-folk legend Liam Clancy in County Waterford. Road Less Traveled followed in 2003, with the all-instrumental Up in the Air arriving the next year.
