Biography
The electronic trio D.A.R.K. draws its new wave inspiration from the combined skills of Cranberries vocalist Dolores O'Riordan, ex-Smiths bassist Andy Rourke, and New York-based producer and songwriter Olé Koretsky. Rourke and Koretsky first connected in Washington, D.C., and subsequently launched their production partnership Jetlag in New York City. Years of joint work gave rise to the earliest outline for D.A.R.K., yet the project only became a formal three-piece once Rourke crossed paths with O'Riordan. Following input from the Cranberries frontwoman on the song concepts, the band tracked its debut album in Ontario, Canada. The group itself handled the arrangements and production, shaping the material around influences that range from the Cure, Depeche Mode, and David Bowie to Magazine, Pet Shop Boys, and R.E.M. Issued in March 2016, the shimmering lead single “Curvy” emerged as an upbeat dance-rock number whose sound leaned closer to New Order than to the Smiths or the Cranberries. Later that summer Cooking Vinyl issued the full-length album Science Agrees.
