Biography
In an effort to sever all ties with the scandal and resulting imprisonment of the frontman from their prior outfit Lostprophets, the surviving musicians chose an entirely new course, discarding both their established style and identity before resurfacing as No Devotion in 2014. Joining forces with Geoff Rickly, the onetime vocalist of Thursday, guitarists Lee Gaze and Mike Lewis, bassist Stuart Richardson, keyboard/synth player Jamie Oliver, and drummer Luke Johnson pursued a sound steeped in ambient textures and post-punk sensibilities. Echoing the atmospheres of Joy Division and the Cure, the band appeared to resume the trajectory Thursday had mapped, conjuring shadowy moods through ringing, introspective rock. No Devotion issued its debut single, “Stay,” in 2014, then delivered its first studio album, Permanence, the following year.
