Biography
After a spontaneous jam session in high school prompted its members to abandon their previous groups, the post-hardcore and alternative rock band A Static Lullaby formed in 2001 in Orange County, CA. The original members included vocalist Joe Brown, bassist Phil Pirrone, drummer Brett Dinovo, and guitarists Dan Arnold and Nathan Lindeman. Their first performance occurred only two weeks later, and additional local shows quickly generated attention. The group self-released the Withered EP before Ferret Records signed them in summer 2002.
They recorded their debut full-length with producer Steve Evetts, whose prior credits include Snapcase and Hatebreed, and issued ...And Don't Forget to Breathe in March 2003. The album established the band's core sound while revealing hints of further creative depth. More than a year of touring created internal tensions that led to Dinovo's departure, after which he returned to school. The band nevertheless moved to Columbia Records and began work on a follow-up.
Faso Latido appeared in April 2005, produced by Lou Giordano, associated with Sunny Day Real Estate and Taking Back Sunday, while Sammy Siegler, formerly of Youth of Today and Gorilla Biscuits, played drums. With the record finished, the group searched for a permanent drummer until Dinovo reconnected with his former bandmates at a show and rejoined in mid-2005. That year also brought an invitation to join the Taste of Chaos tour alongside the Used and Killswitch Engage.
Additional departures in January 2006 left the band unsettled when Pirrone, Dinovo, and Lindeman all exited, and Columbia dropped the group after insufficient sales of the sophomore album. Fearless Records, based in California, soon signed them. By March, Brown and Arnold had assembled a new lineup featuring guitarist John Martinez, bassist Dane Poppin, and drummer Jarrod Alexander. Reuniting with producer Evetts, the refreshed five-piece released a self-titled album in October and toured with I Am Ghost.
Further changes followed as Martinez departed without a replacement and Tyler Mahurin took over for the exiting Alexander, yet A Static Lullaby continued and released Rattlesnake! in 2008.
