Boston's the Receiving End of Sirens favored addressing members by first name alone. During 2003 the five-piece lineup of Alex, Andrew, Brendan, Casey, and Nate issued a self-released, self-titled EP that crystallized their position along the post-hardcore/emo spectrum. Triple Crown Records took notice and extended a contract. The band's first full-length album, Between the Heart and the Synapse, arrived in April 2005, drawing parallels to fellow acts Thrice, Mae, and Emery. After considerable touring, fall 2006 brought Brian—also called the Otter—into the group to replace Casey, who had exited to focus on his side project the Dear Hunter. Once the revised roster stabilized, the musicians tracked and issued their next Triple Crown album, The Earth Sings Mi Fa Mi, in 2007.
