Hidden in Plain View, a post-hardcore outfit from New Jersey, surfaced during the middle of the 2000s by merging the raw force of emo with propulsive rhythms and tuneful hooks. Following several early EPs, the band secured a deal with Drive-Thru Records and delivered two studio albums—Life in Dreaming in 2005 and Resolution in 2007—before calling it quits later that same year. They regrouped in 2015 to mark the tenth anniversary of their debut full-length, issued the fresh EP Animal, and kept playing shows throughout the following decade.

The musicians, rooted in Stanhope, New Jersey, came together in 2000 with Joe Reo handling vocals, Rob Freeman on guitar and vocals, Kenny Ryan on guitar, and Chris Amato on bass. After putting out Find in 2001 and Operation: Cut-Throat in 2002, they locked in Spencer Peterson as their steady drummer. Once attached to the prominent West Coast indie Drive-Thru Records, Hidden in Plain View added Mike Saffert on guitar and put out another EP ahead of their first album, Life in Dreaming, in 2005. Extensive road work came next, including a slot on the U.S. Warped Tour plus runs through Europe and Japan. The group split in January 2007 once they had wrapped recording for what became their second album, Resolution, which Drive-Thru released later in the year.

Following a lone reunion show in 2013, Hidden in Plain View declared they would reassemble for a tenth-anniversary trek celebrating their debut record in 2015. That year also saw the arrival of Animal, a set of new songs released through Rise Records. Reo, Freeman, Amato, Peterson, and Ryan stayed active together for the rest of the decade. In 2020 the band dropped the seasonal single “Christmas Song.”
