Biography
Rufio came together in the suburbs of Rancho Cucamonga, California, during 2000. Its original members were Scott Sellers on guitar and vocals, Jon Berry on bass and vocals, Clark Domae on lead guitar, and Mike Jimenez on drums. A bright pop-punk approach that recalled blink-182 and Sum 41 defined the group’s early work, which surfaced first as the 2001 album Perhaps, I Suppose... on Revelation Records.
June 2003 brought MCMLXXXV (1985), Rufio’s initial Nitro Records release. Producer Nick Rasculinecz guided the sessions, and the record ultimately sold more than 75,000 copies. A string of Warped Tour dates that summer raised the band’s visibility further.
The Comfort of Home, issued in July 2005, reflected a more mature outlook. That autumn Rufio shared a national tour with MxPx and Relient K. Early 2006 saw Berry leave on amicable terms, with Jimenez departing shortly afterward. Fresh members joined the lineup and supported spring shows, yet the exit of two founders remained a significant obstacle.
The following year Rufio dissolved, staging final American concerts in June 2007 before ending activity with a short South American tour. The split proved temporary. Scattered performances occurred throughout 2008, and the band officially re-formed in 2009 once Taylor Albaugh and Terry Stirling, Jr. completed the new roster. The EP The Loneliest appeared that December, followed the next year by the album Anybody Out There.
