Biography
Spitalfield originated in Chicago's suburban area during 1998 and specialized in punk-infused alternative rock that incorporated pop elements. Their initial split release surfaced in 2001, with Faster Crashes Harder appearing the following year via Sinister. The five-track debut EP The Cloak and Dagger Club arrived in October 2002 and earned enthusiastic notices in Punk Planet, prompting the group to join Victory, the dominant label based in their hometown. Remember Right Now, their first outing for the imprint, reached stores in June 2003 and showcased the straightforward melodic approach that had become their signature. Extensive road work alongside Sugarcult, Thursday, the Early November, and Piebald helped introduce Spitalfield to an expanding pop-punk listenership. The 2005 album Stop Doing Bad Things delivered a propulsive set of harmony-rich pop songs whose sound evoked the Foo Fighters and Jimmy Eat World. Bassist T.J. Minich exited during the latter part of that year, leaving vocalist/guitarist Mark Rose, drummer J.D. Romero, and guitarist Dan Lowder; early in 2006 bassist T.J. Milici joined to restore the lineup. The band participated in that summer's Warped Tour yet had to withdraw toward its conclusion after Lowder abruptly declared his departure. The remaining trio returned home to locate and prepare a new guitarist ahead of the October arrival of their third full-length, Better Than Knowing Where You Are.
