Biography
DAT Politics emerged in Lille, France as a laptop ensemble formed after Tone Rec disbanded. Their output blends glitch-tinged IDM that shifts between melodic passages and abrasive noise, tempered throughout by a dark comedic edge, and has appeared across multiple imprints such as Mille Plateaux, Tigerbeat6, A-Musik, FatCat, and the band’s own Skipp label. Among their key albums, Plugs Plus surfaced via Chicks on Speed in 2002, while their 1999 debut Tracto Flirt received a Tigerbeat6 reissue the next year. The gentler Go Pets Go followed in 2004. DAT Politics resurfaced two years afterward with Wow Twist, their most approachable collection to date. The more club-focused Mad Kit landed in 2008. By the time of 2012’s Blitz Gazer the lineup had stabilized around the duo Claude Pailliot and Gaëtan Collet, who incorporated shoegaze and other atmospheric influences into a refined batch of tracks. The pair returned to Tigerbeat6 the next year with the Powermoon EP, an affectionate nod to their lighthearted electro-pop side that also featured a Soft Pink Truth remix. For 2015’s No Void the duo tracked the material inside a northern France cabin, mixing toy instruments with synthesizers and drum machines to produce a shadowy yet playful atmosphere.
