Rooted in the raw drive of American punk and the gritty textures of heartland rock, singer/songwriter Dave Hause has assembled a robust body of recordings across two decades, both on his own and as the lead voice of mid-2000s punk band the Loved Ones. Already an established presence who had endured several Philadelphia punk groups, Hause steered the Loved Ones through two vigorous albums on Fat Wreck Chords before shifting to solo work with the more songwriter-focused Resolutions in 2011. Once that earlier band finally disbanded a year or two afterward, he sustained his expanding solo trajectory, merging Americana textures and socially conscious lyrics with punk urgency on albums such as Bury Me in Philly in 2017 and Kick in 2019, each of which included contributions from his brother and fellow musician Tim Hause.

Born in Philadelphia, Hause launched the Loved Ones in 2003 alongside scene associates Michael "Spider" Cotterman and Mike Sneeringer after serving as manager and roadie for acts including Sick of It All, the Bouncing Souls, Kid Dynamite, and the Explosion. Before that point he had performed in his own hardcore and punk outfits: the Curse, Step Ahead, and Paint It Black. After starting the Loved Ones and briefly managing commitments to both groups, he departed Paint It Black in mid-2004 to focus solely on the former, which had recently tracked a brief demo. The band issued its self-titled EP in early 2005, and following several albums of direct, melodic punk rock, Hause accumulated material that felt mismatched for a Loved Ones release.

Opting to retain the new songs for himself, he began performing solo shows in 2009, and the tracks ultimately appeared on his debut solo album, Resolutions, cut with assistance from friends collectively known as the Empty Bottles Band and issued in early 2011 on Paper + Plastick Records. A year later Hause released five separate 7-inch singles across five independent labels, each pairing rerecorded versions of tracks from that solo debut with covers of songs by artists tied to the respective labels.

After composing another album intended for the Loved Ones, still on extended hiatus and ultimately disbanded, Hause instead recorded the material as his second solo album, Devour. Supported by an ensemble of notable guests drawn from Alkaline Trio, Social Distortion, and Frightened Rabbit, the collection appeared in October 2013. In 2015 he joined the Chicago-based punk supergroup the Falcon and took part in its 2016 release Gather Up the Chaps. His third solo album, the energetic and Americana-inflected Bury Me in Philly, arrived in 2017 on Rise. With this project he began collaborating with younger brother Tim Hause, who became his chief partner on 2019’s Kick. Responding to the 2016 election and the deepening social and political divisions, the brothers jointly wrote the ten-song set, addressing themes of struggle and resilience. In 2020 Hause issued the distinctive double-EP Patty/Paddy, a collection of covers drawn from Americana artist Patty Griffin and Dillinger Four frontman Paddy Costello.
