An American performer celebrated chiefly for his central performances in the 1980 Disney comedy Midnight Madness and the 1981 horror classic An American Werewolf in London, David Naughton also secured a major hit on the Billboard charts via the 1979 pop song "Makin' It." As the son of teachers from Connecticut and the younger brother of theater and film actor James Naughton, he launched his professional path through various television commercials, most notably those for Dr. Pepper. Cast in 1979 for the short-lived U.S. series Makin' It, which drew from the film Saturday Night Fever and aired for merely two months, Naughton laid down the theme track that rose prominently on the charts and occupied the Billboard Top 40 for 16 weeks. Electing to forgo any additional recordings, he maintained his emphasis on an acting career.
