Davie Allan & the Arrows linked the surf and psychedelic periods by supplying music for numerous biker and teen exploitation films across the middle and later portions of the 1960s. Their energetic yet straightforward instrumentals relied on heavy applications of fuzz guitar together with frequent tremolo bar manipulation and wah-wah effects. The guitarist and his group first gained notice through the modest chart entry "Apache '65," a reworking of the Shadows/Jorgen Ingmann instrumental classic "Apache." After aligning with notorious exploitation movie producer Mike Curb, the Arrows furnished soundtracks for multiple B-movies on the Tower and Sidewalk labels; their biggest achievement came with "Blues Theme," drawn from The Wild Angels starring Peter Fonda, which entered the Top 40 in 1967. Although Curb turned from provocative films to the Osmonds and removed psychedelic acts from MGM Records, the Arrows kept performing and recording for assorted labels throughout the '80s and '90s. Numerous reissues in the new millennium widened the group's reach, prompting their return in 2003 with Restless in L.A.
