The Norwegian outfit Death by Unga Bunga derived its name from a release by California garage rock revivalists the Mummies and produces densely textured power pop that incorporates touches of punk alongside classic rock. After establishing a foothold at home during the opening years of the 2010s, the group drew wider attention through its sweet yet forceful albums Pineapple Pizza in 2016 and Heavy Male Insecurity in 2021.

Formed in 2007 by Sebastian Ulstad Olsen on lead vocals and guitar, Preben S. Andersen on keyboards, Stian S. Gulbrandsen on guitar, Even Rolland Pettersen on bass, and Ole S. Nesset on drums, Death by Unga Bunga issued its first studio album, Juvenile Jungle, in 2010 and followed it two years later with the sophomore set The Kids Are Up to No Good. You're an Animal appeared in 2013, while the band's fourth full-length, Pineapple Pizza, and the four-song EP Fight both surfaced in 2016. A pair of singles, "Bye Bye" and "Into the Night," emerged in late 2017 ahead of the studio LP So Far So Good So Cool, which arrived in 2018 and resonated with listeners in Norway and beyond. Three years afterward the band returned with the earworm-filled Heavy Male Insecurity.
