DFRNT

Hailing from the United Kingdom, Dfrnt works as a dubstep producer linked to Echodub and first entered the album arena in 2009 via Metafiction. Born Alex Cowles and situated in Edinburgh, Scotland, he oversees Echodub, runs the magazine Modus, and maintains the blog Sitting Ovation, each outlet centered on dubstep and dub techno. His commercial recording debut under the Dfrnt name surfaced in 2008 on Insectmind with the five-track EP The Dfrnt Engine. In that same year he launched Echodub, opening the label’s catalog with The Forward Thinking EP before quickly following it with Lounge/Wake Up. Later in 2008 he put out the 20-track various-artists compilation Anechoic Chamber on Echodub, incorporating his own pieces “Surface” and “Quite Simply.” Alongside a consistent flow of solo and collaborative releases on Echodub throughout 2009, he delivered Metafiction, a 23-track double-length set on On the Edge, together with the EPs Headspace and Tripped.
