Biography
Olli Dittrich and Wigald Boning assembled the comedy act Die Doofen—rendered in English as “The Stupids”—expressly for the late-night German broadcast RTL Samstag Nacht. Absurd verses and eccentric vocal phrasing quickly built a loyal television audience, prompting the pair to book studio time for a full-length debut. That album, Lieder, Die Die Welt Nicht Braucht, became one of Germany’s best-selling comedy releases. Although its successor, Melodien für Melonen, was well received artistically, commercial results lagged, and the duo disbanded in the late ’90s.
