Die Edlseer, a volksmusik quartet of young men hailing from Austria’s southeastern Styrian region, rose to widespread domestic acclaim through their fusion of longstanding folk traditions with modern sensibilities and energetic youthfulness. The lineup consists of Fritz Kristoferitsch on bass, vocals, and trombone; Manfred Maier on guitar, clarinette, and saxophone; Andreas Doppelhofer handling keyboards and Styrian harmonica; and Luigi Neuwirth on guitar, trombone, and vocals. Established in 1990, the act initially operated as the Edlseer Trio before expanding. They have made repeated appearances at the Grand Prix der Volksmusik, securing the Austrian category victory each time with “Weil i a Schürzenjäger Bin” in 2000 (sixth overall), “Edlziller Party-Knüller” in 2001 (fourth overall), “I Bleib bei Volksmusik” in 2004 (sixth overall), and “A Musikant im Trachteng'wand” in 2006 (fourth overall). Their recorded output encompasses A Echter Steirerklang (1995), Uafoch Stoark (1996), Jung, Zünftig, Super Drauf (1997), Sowieso Samma Froh (1998), Alles Klar (1999), Echt Cool (2000), Wir Stehen auf Frauen-Power (2002), Die Größten Hits der Volksmusik (2003), I Bleib bei Volksmusik (2004), Herz an Herz (2005), Ein Herz aus Volksmusik (2006), and Rot Weiss Rot (2007). The 1997 release Jung, Zünftig, Super Drauf yielded their breakthrough hit single, “Madonna Mia.”
